Rain Couldn't Keep Us Away: June Neighbors Book Club Recap

There are few things cozier than spending a rainy Sunday talking about a great book over coffee—and that's exactly what our June Book Club became.

Despite the pouring rain, nearly 30 book lovers joined us for an afternoon of conversation, connection, and community. We were excited to welcome back many familiar faces while meeting several new ones who experienced Neighbors Book Club for the very first time. Seeing everyone brave the weather reminded us just how special this community has become.

A Book Worth Talking About

This month's read, The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune, gave us plenty to discuss.

Before settling into conversation, guests enjoyed complimentary drip coffee, hot tea, snacks, and a special themed drink crafted by Ali—the Cerulean Sea, an iced honey jasmine tea topped with coconut cold foam and edible blue glitter, inspired by the book itself.

From there, the discussion began.

Each month, Ali creates a unique set of discussion questions inspired by the featured book, helping spark conversations about its themes, characters, and memorable moments. For the first hour, everyone gathered around the tables to share perspectives, hear different interpretations, and explore the story together.

Each month, our discussion is guided by a custom set of questions designed around the featured book, making it easy for everyone—from first-time attendees to longtime readers—to jump into the conversation.

One of the best parts? There were no right answers—just thoughtful conversations and a room full of people who genuinely enjoy sharing ideas.

More Than a Book Club

After the discussion wrapped up, the afternoon naturally shifted into something even more meaningful.

People stayed to chat, meet someone new, catch up with familiar faces, and continue conversations long after the discussion questions had ended. Groups formed organically, stories were shared, and the café settled into exactly the kind of atmosphere we hoped to create—a slower, more intentional space to connect with others.

That's what Neighbors Book Club is all about.

Not just reading great books, but building a community around them.

Looking Ahead

We're excited to announce that our August Book Club selection is Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam.

One recommendation from our organizers: if you can, pick up a physical copy. The novel is written in verse and includes artwork throughout, making the printed edition a unique reading experience.

Whether you've been with us since the beginning or have been thinking about joining for the first time, we'd love to have you.

📅 Sunday, August 2nd
⏰ 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

No pressure to finish the book.
No expectations.
Just good coffee, thoughtful conversation, and a welcoming community.

We'll see you at the next chapter. 📚☕❤️
